BODRUM ANCIENT THEATRE

What is this place?
Located on the southern slope of Göktepe, Bodrum Ancient Theatre dates back to the 4th century BC. A key site in the theatrical history of the Roman Empire, the theatre has been restored in 1990 and now serves as a venue for concerts and cultural events. It is also one of the oldest theatres in Anatolia.

MYNDOS ANCIENT CITY

What is this place?

Located in the Gümüşlük area, Myndos is an ancient city that lies at the intersection of Mediterranean and Aegean cultures. Established by the Leleges around 640 BC, a large portion of the city is now submerged underwater. Remnants of diverse architectural styles are visible, and many submerged ruins remain to be discovered.

MYNDOS GATE

What is this place?

Estimated to have been built in the 360s BC by Carian Satrap Mausolos, the Myndos Gate is a significant historical structure named after the ancient city of Myndos. Built for defense, it was one of the city’s key protective walls. Even Alexander the Great was unable to breach this gate during his campaign.

MAUSOLEUM AT HALICARNASSUS

What is this place?

The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus is a monumental tomb built in 353 BC by Queen Artemisia in memory of her husband and brother, King Mausolos. Located near Bodrum Castle, it blends Greek and Egyptian architectural elements. Stones from the Mausoleum were later used in the construction of Bodrum Castle. It is believed the structure collapsed after standing for around 1,500 years due to an earthquake. Some of its remains are now housed in the British Museum.

Why should I visit?

Although only a portion of the original structure remains, it is recognized as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and is a must-see.
