Wine Tasting Stages   

Whether it is a white or red wine, it must be analysed by sight, smell and taste. The aim is to discover its organoleptic characteristics. Through tasting, you learn to recognise smells, aromas and flavours.

Wine Tasting Stages: Visual Analysis

Visual analysis is the first step in tasting. Through the sense of sight, it allows the wine to be identified by the colour (white, red or pink) of the family to which it belongs. It provides an initial assessment of the product. But what parameters are observed? First of all, the colour, but also the clarity or transparency, i.e. the presence of particles at the bottom of the bottle. The consistency of the wine is assessed for all wines except sparkling wines. So, by swirling the glass, you can judge the speed at which the drops land on the arches in the walls of the glass. In this way you can understand the alcohol content.   

Wine Tasting Stages: Odour Analysis 

Before the actual tasting, an olfactory analysis is carried out by sniffing the wine while holding the glass at an angle to the nose. Breathing slowly and deeply, you can get a first impression by identifying the main notes of the wine. This second stage of wine tasting allows us to identify the aroma of the wine by associating it with the different tasting families to which it belongs.   

Tasting Analysis      

Finally, we come to flavour analysis: the actual tasting of the wine. The taste buds on the tongue act as sensors and can detect and distinguish 4 basic tastes: sour, sweet, salty and bitter. This allows a detailed analysis of the different parameters.
